29. Meant To Be

“Our job in this lifetime is not to shape ourselves into some ideal we imagine we ought to be, but to find out who we already are and become it.” This is a great quote from “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield.

I could end right here because this quote says it all!

Too often, we use the collective experiences in our life, along with all of the false beliefs we have gathered from culture, TV, movies, and relationships good and bad… to define what that ideal is for us. We don’t typically take the time to question those experiences and really determine if those things are a true indicator of where we are headed in our life.

To take on the responsibility of shaping ourselves is a huge undertaking! Think about it: you are on this earth and you will experience millions of “new” things that are all new to each of us at some time or another, and too often, those around us hold an expectation that we should get it right on the first shot, otherwise don’t try it. How hard is it to confidently step out of your comfort zone and do something you’ve never done?

As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, be thankful for those family and friends surrounding you and know that we were all put into each other’s lives for a reason. Let’s not get caught up in worrying about how we look and how others perceive us. Who are you and how can you become a greater representation of that person?

I’m thankful for those of you who visit my site and read these posts. It’s so great to share what God is putting on my heart and to engage with people about those things. I hope the rest of your Thanksgiving weekend is full of love and happiness!

Let me know what you think!
